What is Root Canal Treatment?

Getting root canal treatment may seem like a very daunting procedure but it is one of the best ways to save a tooth that is severely infected or decayed. It is necessary to have root canal treatment when the inside of your tooth (the pulp) becomes severely infected or inflamed as a result of very deep decay.

During the treatment, the infected pulp of the decayed tooth will be completely removed from the tooth and the root canals will be enlarged and thoroughly cleaned for the dentist to fill them then properly. After the bacteria has been removed, the root canal is filled and the tooth is sealed with a filling or a crown. The treatment will be carried out over a couple visits.

Many times people wonder, why would I need a root canal, can I just fix my tooth with a filling or even just let it be?
