To replace a missing teeth there’s two simple options:
- Dental implants (the better choice) cost £2,500 including your implant, abutment and crown. They act as natural tooth roots, mimic teeth perfectly and last up to 30 years.
- Dental bridges are a cheaper (from £975), common solution but require otherwise healthy teeth to be filed down so that a crown can be used to secure the false tooth. Lasting 5-7 years.
It’s simple. You should never ignore tooth loss because you’ll put your jawbone at risk. Even if it’s just a single missing tooth.
If you’ve lost a tooth, the root is no longer there to stimulate the jawbone, which over time causes bone loss, which leads to instability, facial sagging and further tooth loss.
Once the jawbone begins to deplete (usually after the first six months) and you lose density, replacing the gap with false teeth will be challenging and costly.
- Do not pick up by the root, but the crown.
- Touching the root can cause damage to the soft tissue.
- Do not try to reattach it yourself.
In cases where a whole tooth has been lost:
- Clean the tooth with water or saliva if dirty.
- Keep the tooth in saliva or milk (within a container) until you can see a dentist.
- Alternatively patients can leave it in their cheek, but not advisable in case it’s swallowed.

I had the lovely Dr Shankar for a 4 month Invisalign treatment. I mainly had overcrowding that needed sorting out after having had braces as a teenager and not wearing my retainer. Dr Shankar was delightful and has a lovely energy about him that made me feel very comfortable throughout the whole process. He explained processes well and also gave good advice to help me make informed decisions. I would highly highly recommend him to anyone in the Maida Vale area!

Following a friend’s recommendation, I brought my eldest daughter to Dr Ines do Carmo for orthodontic treatment.
Ines has been brilliant throughout the treatment; she is incredibly passionate about her work and this is reflected in her skilled perfectionism and the amazing results she achieves for her patients. From the start, Ines’ warm and friendly manner succeeded in putting my apprehensive daughter at ease. She was also forthcoming and thorough in her explanations of the treatment, and happy to share her extensive knowledge.
