So, we’ve made it very easy for patients to combine their check-up appointments with other treatments like hygiene sessions to save them time and money.
But, it’s not just this. If we identify any concerning problems during your check-up like decaying or broken teeth, we have the facilities to treat your issue the same day – whatever it is.
Signs that you need a check-up today
There are a few signs and symptoms that shouldn’t be ignored as the longer you leave them, the worse the situation can become.
- Heightened tooth sensitivity to touch or hot and cold
- Sharp tooth pain, especially when biting down
- Toothache that won’t go away
- Staining on the front surface of teeth or tooth turning black
- Lumps on the gum, or pus pockets

Extensive Dental Examinations Are Essential For Identifying Potential Issues That Have Yet To Show Any Symptoms.
- It is important to get a comprehensive exam during your first appointment with a new dentist, if you haven’t been to the dentist in three or more years, or if you have experienced any significant health issues since your last dental appointment.
- Unlike a general dental examination, comprehensive exams include several steps, designed to identify specific potential issues.

- Digital X-Rays are used to check for decay, cavities, bone loss and other potential issues.
Routine Dental Exams Are The Most Efficient Way Of Identifying Abnormalities And Preventing Potential Issues From Growing.
Identifying and dealing with problems early enough increase the chance of treatment success and can also help patients save money in the long run.
Routine examinations include visual inspections to check and touch:
- Each tooth
- Your gums
- Tongue and cheeks
If there is an obvious cavity or infection, an x-ray is to be taken and your teeth will have any build-up of plaque removed with a hygiene session.
- Detect problems early, when they’re most treatable, and provide tips for caring for your child’s teeth.
- Combined hygiene appointment to clean your child’s teeth and evaluate the risk of tooth decay.
For Children Aged Between 6 Months And 1 Year
- Removal of stains or deposits on teeth by gently scrubbing.
- Assessment of how much fluoride your child is getting through diet and use of oral hygiene products. We may prescribe a fluoride supplement or apply a topical fluoride treatment to your child’s teeth if necessary.
- Identify any sores or bumps on your child’s tongue, inside the cheeks, and on the roof of the mouth while evaluating the impact of habits.

I’ve been receiving orthodontic treatment for about a year now with Dr. Ines and she’s a wonderful mixture of highly skilled and professional, very thorough, and gentle in her approach. She is also super personable and I always look forward to my monthly appointments with her. She’s made such a big improvement to my teeth and I’m very happy with my treatment so far — I highly recommend Dr. Ines.
I’ve also had other treatments with Maida Smiles and always had a great experience, especially with my wisdom teeth removal (by Dr. Pedro) that went very smoothly without any issues. I had the lovely Dr Shankar for a 4 month Invisalign treatment. I mainly had overcrowding that needed sorting out after having had braces as a teenager and not wearing my retainer. Dr Shankar was delightful and has a lovely energy about him that made me feel very comfortable throughout the whole process. He explained processes well and also gave good advice to help me make informed decisions. I would highly highly recommend him to anyone in the Maida Vale area!

Following a friend’s recommendation, I brought my eldest daughter to Dr Ines do Carmo for orthodontic treatment.
Ines has been brilliant throughout the treatment; she is incredibly passionate about her work and this is reflected in her skilled perfectionism and the amazing results she achieves for her patients. From the start, Ines’ warm and friendly manner succeeded in putting my apprehensive daughter at ease. She was also forthcoming and thorough in her explanations of the treatment, and happy to share her extensive knowledge.
