Do I See A Periodontist Or A Hygienist?

Depending on which stage you are experiencing gum disease, during the early stages (gingivitis), we recommend seeing one of our specialist hygienists (Dr Andreia Azedo) to treat your gums before they can get any worse. See one of our hygienists.

If you are experiencing the advanced stages of gum disease, we expect you to immediately make an appointment with one of our periodontists to resolve any issues you may have.

However, please note that our hygienist works closely with our lead periodontist and manages mild gum disease cases under their supervision.

How We Treat Gum Disease

What our patients will undergo during an appointment with either a hygienist or periodontist when resolving gum disease:

A scale and polish are a quick and thorough cleaning process designed to access areas your toothbrush cannot reach.
Thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting the contaminated areas
Root planning removes plaque and calculus below the gum line, which contains millions of bacteria from the root surfaces.

I had the lovely Dr Shankar for a 4 month Invisalign treatment. I mainly had overcrowding that needed sorting out after having had braces as a teenager and not wearing my retainer. Dr Shankar was delightful and has a lovely energy about him that made me feel very comfortable throughout the whole process.
