Which is more expensive? Braces or Invisalign

When choosing the right orthodontic treatment for you, it is no secret that price can be a determining factor.

Having a straight and healthy smile is an important investment in your future, so today we would like to offer you a simple breakdown of the real costs of both – braces and Invisalign.

We would also like to remind you that whichever option you choose, we are here to support you! Maida Smiles Clinic offers 0% interest financial plans for up to 12 months!

The Cost of Braces

The standard cost of braces starts from £2500 and can go up depending on each individual case. While initially, the cost of braces might seem high, rest assured that they will be worth it. In fact, they may actually save you money in the long run.

Crooked teeth, missing teeth or an irregular bite, which cause you to need braces could result in tooth decay, gum disease or more missing teeth if left untreated.

The truth is that like almost every other medical procedure, braces are highly individual for every patient, and so are the fees associated with them.

Perhaps the most important factor in determining your treatment plan and cost is the severity of your case. For example, if your teeth are overcrowded or you have a severe overbite/underbite, it is likely that the length and number of appointments required to complete your treatment will increase.

Extractions can also be a common requirement, when it comes to orthodontic treatment. Rarely, some patients may also need jaw surgery.

Therefore, the longer you are required to wear braces, the more adjustments you’ll need and the more expensive your treatment is likely to be.

The average patient will come in to have their braces tightened or adjusted every six weeks. It makes sense that a patient who needs four orthodontist visits over six months will pay less than someone who needs sixteen visits throughout two years.

Furthermore, depending on the type of braces you choose, changes in fees may apply. Ultimately, the more equipment required to achieve your end result, the higher your financial investment will be.

Finally, if a case is particularly complex, it is not uncommon for patients to be referred to specialists, trained to deal with their particular case.

Thankfully, our orthodontist Dr.Ines is extremely experienced and helps patients with all types of standard orthodontic treatment.

Therefore, our team at Maida Smiles Clinic is prepared to handle the most demanding cases, which is likely to make the treatment less expensive.

The Cost of Invisalign

If you’re not already familiar with the Invisalign system, we suggest heading to this blog article first!

Aligner trays made of smooth, comfortable, BPA-free clear plastic are worn over your teeth to subtly and gently move your teeth.

Our expert Dr. Melanie will use X-rays, pictures, and impressions to create a precise 3D image of your teeth and to configure your aligner trays accordingly.

The 3D scan of your teeth is used for making all the customised retainers in a laboratory, which should only be changed approximately every two weeks free of charge. A CBCT exam makes the accuracy of your smile design unmatched.

We at Maida Smiles can provide this with the latest Kavo OP 3D Award Winning 3D Scan!

Similarly to braces, the treatment cost varies between £1500-£3500 depending on each individual case. In general, the three stages of Invisalign are as follows:

  1. Invisalign i7

  2. Invisalign Lite

  3. Invisalign Full

And they all depend on the needs of each patient.

Clear aligners tend to cost a bit more than traditional braces, but there’s no way to provide exact numbers without knowing the specific needs of your teeth.

The best thing to do is book a FREE Invisalign Consultation with Dr.Melanie Castelhano, where she will guide you through all the required steps and treatment costs.

Some patients may need small composite patches applied to each tooth to help Invisalign’s clear aligners to grip onto each tooth and move them. Each patient is different and not all require these patches.

The patches are simply made from the same composite material that fillings are made out of and will be removed very easily and without any discomfort at the end of the Invisalign process.

Another piece of preparatory work which varies from patient to patient is the amount of interproximal reduction necessary.

This complicated sounding procedure is actually quite straight-forward and is simply used to create more space between teeth when the patient’s mouth is crowded. To do this, we will use discs to “sand” away some enamel and free up the tooth for improved, less restricted future movement.

In conclusion, it is difficult to establish which treatment is more expensive, which is why at your initial consultation, we make it our priority to carefully go through each step of the process and explain the costs associated with it.
