Over the last century there have been major changes in the orthodontic industry. There are various orthodontic treatment options today to have your teeth straightened in a convenient, fast and effective way without having big metal brackets stuck onto your teeth.
Not only are there options for you that are almost invisible to the naked eye, such as Clear fixed Braces (Ceramic Brackets being the main one) and Incognito Braces as there are also removable options that are available such as Clear removable braces (Invisalign being an example). Remember, it is really never too late to have your teeth straightened with the most convenient and effective treatments, including both Ceramic Bracket Braces and Invisalign (clear aligners).
Clear braces work in the same way as traditional metal braces. They use clear or tooth-coloured brackets fixed to the front of teeth to hold a wire which slowly pulls teeth into place. However, clear braces do not use unsightly metal brackets which stand out.
Clear braces are crafted from materials such as plastic or clear ceramics. This makes them see-through and nearly invisible. This makes them far harder to notice than metal braces, especially from a distance!
Although they may not be as discreet as Incognito braces, hidden behind the teeth, clear braces are more subtle and predictable than other systems.
Invisalign treatment has become an increasingly popular treatment that allows you to transform your smile discretely and comfortably with virtually invisible removable braces. Invisalign is the process of wearing a series of clear, removable aligners that gradually straighten your teeth. There are no brackets and wires with Invisalign. Most restrictions that are often accompanied with metal braces are removed with clear transparent braces. Treatment time varies from patient to patient but the average Invisalign treatment takes 8-18 months.
At your initial consultation, your dentist will evaluate your smile and map out your customised treatment plan. At that stage he/she will be able to outline how long your treatment will take.
Photos and impression mold records of your teeth are recorded. At a latter appointment, a video presentation showing the expected teeth movement progression is presented and discussed between the orthodontist dentist carrying out the treatment and the patient about to embark on it.
After you have approved your plan, your treatment will begin with a new set of aligners every one to two weeks, slowly moving your teeth into the desired position.
You are able to drink liquids, preferably only water with your aligners in your mouth however you can easily remove them to eat and brush your teeth. This ensures that the process of straightening your teeth will not cause any damage to the health of your teeth and the removable aligners pose no restrictions. You can eat and drink as you please as long as you continue with good oral hygiene practices.

The Incognito straightening system functions much like traditional braces. It consists of the same procedure of applying pressure to the teeth, to help them move to their desired position. However, what makes them hidden is that this system places the metal brackets and wires on the backs of the teeth instead of the front, making them virtually impossible to notice.
The incognito straightening system uses the latest computer technology to plan your treatment and create your custom braces. Another advantage of choosing Incognito braces is that although the treatment time varies, due to the advanced technology in the brackets and wires, treatment can be completed faster than traditional braces. Most patients experience minimal discomfort with incognito braces.

I loved my first visit to Maida Smile Dental Clinic. The staff member at reception was very warm, welcoming and professional. My dentist, Priscilla, and her assistant were fantastic. I have quite sensitive teeth near my gums and I can find the probing and investigation quite uncomfortable during a consultation, but this wasn’t the case at all. I didn’t experience discomfort and felt in very safe hands. This also applied to the hygienist work. I didn’t even have to ask Priscilla to avoid using the ultra sound cleaner on the sensitive areas of my teeth. I’m looking forward to going back, and that’s not often you can say that about going to the dentist!
