A cobalt-chrome denture is a medically approved, modern partial denture type made from light alloy metals like cobalt and chromium. Cobalt chrome dentures are better quality than acrylic but cost more.

How do cobalt chrome dentures work?

Cobalt chrome dentures are typically recommended in cases where natural teeth remain, as they rely on natural teeth for stability and retention through clasps.
The denture replaces missing teeth via a strong, thin metal framework, which offers better retention and stability and prevents the denture from moving around when you eat and speak.
However, the fact they use a metal framework can sometimes put patients off, but aesthetically, they’re sound – this is because, in most cases, we put clasps on the back teeth, which avoid any visibility.

Cobalt's limits
One disadvantage of cobalt chrome dentures is that they’re not easy to change. If your mouth changes over time, for example, through further tooth loss, movement, or gum shrinkage, you might require a new set of dentures rather than an adjustment.
