Lighten dark gums with laser gum depigmentation
What is gum bleaching?
Gum bleaching, also called gum depigmentation, lightens gums that are dark or patchy because of natural pigmentation, smoking or past dental work.
A dental laser gently removes the pigmented surface layer of the gum, and fresh, lighter pink tissue heals in its place.
The treatment is carried out in the practice under local anaesthetic, so it is comfortable, and most people return to normal activities straight away.
Your gums are tender for a few days afterwards and take around one to two weeks to heal fully. We explain the aftercare at your appointment.
