Ceramic White Braces

Near invisible braces

Ceramic braces, often called clear braces, work the same way as traditional metal braces. However, they’re more discreet and subtle. Suitable for children and adults alike, clear braces use ceramic brackets that are tooth-coloured and virtually invisible.

Ceramic braces explained - what are they?

Clear braces consist of ceramic, tooth-coloured brackets attached to teeth with a wire that runs through them. This wire is straightened gradually during your treatment, guiding the teeth into their final position.

Whilst the wire is often metal, it's tooth-coloured (the same as the brackets), hence the nickname “clear braces”, which allows patients to take a more subtle approach to their treatment.

Ceramic Braces Cost in London

Ceramic braces cost slightly more than traditional metal braces due to their discreet, tooth-coloured brackets. At Maida Smiles, ceramic braces are priced for both upper and lower arches.

  • Ceramic braces: £3,500 for both arches
  • Single arch: from £1,750
  • 0% finance available — spread the cost over 12–36 months

While NHS orthodontics does not cover ceramic braces, our clinic offers flexible payment plans to make private treatment accessible.

Getting to know ceramic braces

How long do ceramic braces take?

Ceramic braces can take between 18 and 36 months to straighten teeth. In cosmetic cases, where the only minor, front visible teeth are being straightened, ceramic braces can work their magic in only six months. How long treatment takes will depend on your bite condition or malocclusion.

Types of ceramic braces:

There are two near-invisible brace options:

  • Six-month smiles: Straightens teeth in an average time of six months.
  • CFast: Clear brackets that make cosmetic changes to the front teeth.

Benefits and limitations of ceramic

Whilst ceramic braces might be a good option if you’re self-conscious about having braces and need a discreet option, they might not be for everyone.

Benefits:

  • Less visible than metal braces
  • In some instances, can work faster than clear aligners
  • Choose your own colour that’s perfectly matched to teeth

Limitations:

  • In severe cases, ceramic braces will take longer to straighten teeth
  • More expensive than regular metal braces
  • More susceptible to staining

Ceramic brace alternatives

Clear braces are not the only discreet orthodontic option available; other options include lingual braces, which are like traditional braces, but they’re fitted behind the teeth and are, therefore, hidden from view.

Clear, removable aligners, like Invisalign, are another great option. Thin and completely transparent, Invisalign is made from plastic that fits comfortably over teeth. Although Invisalign is removable, it must be worn for at least 23 hours per day and can be removed to eat, drink, brush, and floss.

Another alternative is traditional metal braces, including multi-coloured or regular silver brackets. Costs from £1,500.

Adult brace treatment options

The below treatment options successfully treat crooked, misaligned, and overcrowded teeth, overbites, underbites, crossbites, and open bites. All treatments are also perfect for gapped teeth, although Invisalign cannot close gaps larger than 0.4mm.

Questions answered

Ceramic braces cost slightly more than traditional metal braces, which cost £3,500 at our clinic in London. The price is for both arches, so if you need to straighten just one row of teeth, you can expect prices to be from £1,750.

Whilst fixed metal braces are available on the NHS to those with a clinical need and meeting certain criteria, clear braces are not.

Due to their cosmetic appeal, clear braces are only available via private practices like ours.

While the cost will depend on the severity of your bite or crowding problem, patients should expect prices to begin from £1,750, including your adjustments and final smile enhancement. This price applies to both top and bottom arches.
