A low priced veneers offer is not a problem in itself. Prices vary between clinics for ordinary reasons, and plenty of people look for good value. What matters is knowing what the price covers. A dentist who is on the GDC register, a proper examination, a written plan, a clear answer on materials and tooth preparation, and a plan for aftercare are the things that make a veneer offer safe to say yes to, whatever the price.
Below is a checklist you can take to any consultation. It does not rank clinics and it does not quote veneer fees. It helps you ask the right questions so you can compare two quotes like for like.
A veneer is a thin shell, usually porcelain or tooth coloured composite, fixed to the front of a tooth. According to the Oral Health Foundation, a small amount of enamel is usually removed from the front of the tooth so the veneer does not feel bulky, and the veneer is then bonded to the tooth with a strong dental adhesive.
In the UK, dentists must be on the General Dental Council register. According to the GDC, anyone can search the register for free, by name, town or a combination of the two. The public register shows a dental professional's registration status, registration number, registrant type, dates of registration and qualifications.
Some clinics offer a free first chat with a treatment coordinator, and that can be a useful way to understand options, timings and costs. It is not the same as a clinical examination.
That last question matters. A treatment plan should still be useful to you if you decide to go elsewhere. If you already have a quote and want a view on it, you can ask for a second opinion before committing.
Our free consultation is with a treatment coordinator who is not a clinician, so it does not include a clinical assessment, and the dentist's examination is the step where suitability is decided.
The material is one of the biggest reasons prices differ, so ask for it by name. The Oral Health Foundation says veneers are usually made from porcelain or from tooth coloured composite, which is a filling material.
Composite veneers are shaped directly on the tooth, which is why they can often be done in one visit. You can read more about composite veneers, including how the process works. Porcelain veneers are made in a dental laboratory from an impression or scan of your teeth, which is why they normally take more than one appointment. You can read more about porcelain veneers and what the stages involve.
If you are weighing up composite against porcelain, or against bonding alone, our post on composite bonding vs veneers sets out the differences.
This is the question most people forget to ask. According to the Oral Health Foundation, a small amount of enamel is removed from the front of the tooth for a veneer. Some treatments are described as "no prep" or minimal preparation, but that wording does not always mean the tooth is left untouched.
Ask the dentist plainly how much of your own tooth will be shaped, and whether any preparation is needed at all for your teeth. Ask whether your teeth and gums are healthy enough, because the Oral Health Foundation stresses healthy teeth and gums and good oral hygiene before and after treatment.
If you want more detail on this approach, our post on no prep veneers covers what the term can and cannot mean.
According to the Oral Health Foundation, veneers can last many years if they are looked after properly, but they can still chip, crack or come loose. Small chips may be repaired, but sometimes a new veneer is needed. The Oral Health Foundation also says good daily cleaning and regular dental check ups help veneers last longer.
A damaged or lost veneer leaves the tooth underneath exposed, so we treat it as urgent. You can read more about what to do in our advice on a broken veneer.
A lower figure is not always a lower value. Sometimes it simply reflects a smaller treatment, a different material or fewer teeth. It is still worth asking whether the following are in the quote, because each one affects the real cost and the quality of the plan.
According to the NHS, veneers are generally only available privately unless you can show a clinical need for them. The NHS also advises asking your dentist whether a treatment is available on the NHS and what it will cost before you go ahead, so ask for the full cost in writing.
We explain what affects the price in our veneer costs, and you can see the full range of options under veneers. We offer 0% finance over 12 months on eligible treatment, subject to status. We are a credit broker, not a lender, and longer terms may carry interest, so read the terms carefully. You can read how this works under dental finance.
See a dentist soon if a veneer has chipped, cracked or come off, if a tooth feels sensitive or sore, or if the gum around a veneer is red or swollen. A lost veneer leaves the tooth underneath exposed, so it needs attention.
A lower price does not make veneers unsafe, and a higher price does not make them safe. What matters is who carries out the treatment, whether they are on the GDC register, whether you have been examined first and whether the plan is clear. Use the checklist above to compare any offer on those points.
According to the GDC, the register is free to search and anyone can use it, by name, town or both. It shows registration status, registration number, registrant type, dates of registration and qualifications. Ask for the name of the dentist who will carry out your treatment and look them up before you book.
Ask for the material, the number of teeth, the number of appointments, and what is included and what is extra. Check whether the examination, X rays, planning, a trial smile, a review after fitting and repairs are covered. A written, itemised quote lets you compare two offers properly.
According to the NHS, veneers are generally only available privately, unless you can show a clinical need for them. The NHS advises asking your dentist whether a treatment is available on the NHS and what it will cost before you go ahead.
According to the Oral Health Foundation, a small amount of enamel is usually removed from the front of the tooth for a veneer. How much depends on the type of veneer and your teeth, so ask the dentist to explain it before you agree. Some treatments are described as no prep or minimal preparation, but you should still ask what that means for your teeth.
The Oral Health Foundation says veneers can last many years if they are looked after properly, and that good daily cleaning and regular check ups help. They can still chip, crack or come loose, and a new veneer is sometimes needed. Your dentist can tell you what to expect for your own teeth.
No. A free consultation with a treatment coordinator helps you understand options, timings and costs, but it is not a clinical assessment. The dentist's examination is where your teeth, gums and bite are checked and suitability is decided. Ours is with a treatment coordinator, who is not a clinician.

I could not be more satisfied with my experience at Maida Smiles - A special mention to Dr Gurteurez who is one of the most friendly and professional dentists I have ever met

I had my first visit and the team was very warm, caring and professional. The online booking platform makes it very easy to arrange your appointment. I would highly recommend them

Being very nervous about using dentists after a terrible experience when I was younger, I came to Maida Smiles and loved the calm patient demeanour of Pedro. You can clearly see Pedro and the team take pride in what they do and are perfectionists. The whole experience was great and I will never go to another dentist again.

Delighted with the outcome of my treatment by Pedro. Meticulous attention to detail explaining exactly how the procedure would be carried out from first consultation to completion backed up with supporting guidance notes. Clearly an expert in his field and someone who cares passionately about the outcomes for his patients. Highly recommended.

I loved my first visit to Maida Smile Dental Clinic. The staff member at reception was very warm, welcoming and professional. My dentist, Priscilla, and her assistant were fantastic. I have quite sensitive teeth near my gums and I can find the probing and investigation quite uncomfortable during a consultation, but this wasn’t the case at all. I didn’t experience discomfort and felt in very safe hands. This also applied to the hygienist work. I didn’t even have to ask Priscilla to avoid using the ultra sound cleaner on the sensitive areas of my teeth. I’m looking forward to going back, and that’s not often you can say that about going to the dentist!

Since I first had the luck to be recommended and book an appointment with Dr. Pedro Gutierres over 8 years ago, I have never trusted my dental health nor my family’s to anyone else. It’s very hard to find a dentist who ticks all the boxes and even goes beyond any expectations you may have, from service, sympathy, professionalism, and expertise, etc., 5 stars are not enough to rate him. I was so happy when he opened his own clinic and surrounded himself with the best professionals you can find, I cannot recommend Maida Smiles Dental Clinic enough.

“Pedro was so patient and professional throughout my treatment for my implants.. I chose to have my treatment with a local anaesthetic rather than any sedation and have a very bad gag reflex when anything touches the back of my throat. His patience throughout the experience was wonderful, completely putting me at ease and he also gave me a technique to help me in the future. I have seen him for my follow up and fully intend to book an annual visit in 2020. which is no small thing as I live 60 miles away.I can thoroughly recommend him for any treatment.”

I was very nervous about having a dental implant but was immediately put at ease by Dr Pedro Gutierres. The procedure was explained in full and the care both during and after treatment has been of the highest standard. I received advice on how to look after my implant and have had no problems. I highly recommend.

I had 7 implants installed by Dr Pedro Gutierres, including one which required a bone graft. In my 70 years I’ve had some bad experiences with dental treatment so it takes a lot for me to relax but, from my initial consultation, through to the end of the treatment, I had complete trust in Pedro’s expertise: preparations for the treatment and after-care were extremely thorough and fully explained, the treatment itself was surprisingly endurable (considering what was involved) and the implants have made a major difference to my life. If you are considering implants then I would whole-heartedly and sincerely recommend Pedro for this work.

I couldn’t recommend Maida Smiles enough: the care, attention to detail and the way Dentists and Nurses made sure I felt comfortable and safe throughout the treatments was incredible. Dr Pedro explained the treatments in detail to me and I have never felt under pressure to proceed… but I am very glad I did as I am happy and confident to smile again!

I went to different clinics before, and nobody could really convince me until Maida Smiles did. The team here makes you comfortable , shows you different options and different budgets , and doesn't try to make you go only for one plan. I felt that the team was knowledgeable and wanted to help me , so that's why I decided to start

"I told him, 'I want beautiful teeth, beautiful but natural, I don't want fake looking teeth.' Now I smile, I talk... it just makes you more confident. If you wear a beautiful nice suit... you have beautiful teeth, then it's like a perfect."
Louca
"I went to my hygienist a little while ago, and she said to me they were the best implants that she'd ever seen and she would never have known that they weren't my real teeth."
Sharon
Dr. Pedro explained the process of Invisalign to me. It sounded easy, it was quite a quick process, and the end result is my teeth moved back, so I'm quite happy.
Soula
I feel like I've not just developed a professional relationship with my dentist and the staff... they become more like friends as well, because of the kind of compassion and sympathy that they give you during treatment.

"After a friend recommended the clinic, I was referred to Dr. Pedro, who did such a wonderful job with my teeth. The staff was extremely professional; they put you at ease, and it just made the whole experience easier. They have more than met my expectations. I have to have a few more implants, and I'm not afraid anymore. Now, finally, I can live again."
Lesley
"After not having a great experience with previous dental treatments, I was desperate for someone that I trusted. I broke a tooth, and even before I saw Dr. Pedro, he reassured me that I was going to be fine. He made me feel very comfortable and at ease. It was an amazing experience, from not only Dr. Pedro but also all the staff in the clinic, and I would definitely recommend [them] ".
Mariana

I am always anxious when having to see the dentist and this was one of my first experiences with Maida Smiles. The dentist, Benedict Harrison was very reassuring and immediately put me at ease. He was quite lucid in his explanations of what had to be done, etcetera, and is making good progress with the ongoing treatment. Also, the rest of the staff were friendly and just plain nice.

Wow wow Dr Claudia is the best dentist in London, my kid adores her and it is always a pleasant visit. Can’t recommend her enough
Bel Cohn
I am delighted with the results of my replacement veneers.
Dr Benedict Harrison was very good at talking me through the whole process and keeping me informed during the treatment if there were any issues - which there weren’t.
He has a charming demeanour which is an added advantage in a dentist, who I think we all agree are not our favourite people, overall a 5 star experience.
Karen Shepherd
I went to the Maida Smiles Clinic for the first time and had the most wonderful experience! I am dentist phobic but strangely left the place with a big smile on my face (literally!). The receptionist was super kind, Susan was impeccable and very helpful, and I had my appointment with the most amazing dentist Dr Mafalda Vilhena. Couldn’t recommend her enough. She explains the whole procedure and is very rigorous in her work. Congratulations to Dr Pedro Gutierres for creating such an excellent working environment and to all the team. I will be back and bringing my family along and we don’t even live in Maida Vale. Thank you for such an impeccable job on my teeth and for taking my fear of dentists away. Note: they don’t cover NHS, only private bookings or with insurance.
